Shawna Yen

Associate General Counsel for Compliance

Shawna Yen serves as Associate General Counsel at Tufts University.

Prior to coming to Tufts, Ms. Yen worked at John Hancock Financial Services for nearly 12 years, most recently as the Deputy Chief Counsel of the U.S. Litigation Department.  Previously, she was the Associate Chief Counsel of the U.S. Compliance Department, providing legal guidance and advice on a wide range of compliance matters and handling complex internal investigations.

Ms. Yen is a former federal prosecutor.  She served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California for eight years and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey for four years.  Prior to that, Ms. Yen was a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell.  She clerked for the Honorable Judge Raymond J. Dearie in the Eastern District of New York, and for the Honorable Leonard I. Garth in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Ms. Yen received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her B.A. from Harvard College.  She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New York, and California.
