What should you do if you suspect a data breach?

The university’s Security and Privacy Program is designed to protect personal information from inadvertent disclosure and unauthorized access. For the purposes of this program, personal information includes social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state ID card numbers, credit card, and other financial account information.

Under Massachusetts law, Tufts has an obligation to notify affected residents and state officials if there is a breach of personal information. This includes data on current and former students, faculty and staff, job applicants, alumni, customers, and research participants.

If you discover a data security breach, please contact the Office of University Counsel (OUC) as soon as possible at 617-627-3337 or legal@tufts.edu. The OUC will help coordinate the university’s response to the breach.
